Western Desert Landscape Painting of what very well may be the the White Sands National Park with the Organ Mountains in background and featuring native plants. Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world's largest gypsum dunefield. White Sands National Park preserves a major portion of this unique dunefield, along with the plants and animals that live here.
The Organ Mountains are a steep, angular mountain range with rocky spires that jut majestically above the Chihuahuan Desert floor to an elevation of 9,000 feet.  This picturesque area of rocky peaks, narrow canyons, and open woodlands ranges from Chihuahuan Desert habitat to ponderosa pine in the highest elevations.  Located adjacent to and on the east side of Las Cruces, this area provides opportunities for photography, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, camping, and wildlife viewing.

Earl Garland Hammock (1896-1974) was a noted Texas, Colorado, Arizona, Nebraska, and New Mexico Southwest Landscape artist. He is listed in such prestigious art reference woks as "Who Was Who in American Art" by Peter Hastings Falk, "Artists of the American West" by Doris Dawdy and "The Illustrated Biographical Encyclopedia of Artists of the American West" by Peggy and Harold Samuels. And his "Still Life" illustration is the cover page of the book entitled, "Arizona Under the Sun" by Oren Arnold. He has works in the permanent collection of the Denver Art Museum, Colorado Historical Society and the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center.

Earl G. Hammock was born February 11, 1896 in Montague Texas to John A Hammock and Elizabeth Matilda (Howard) Hammock. His father was a commercial artist so his desire to dabble with paint came at a young age. Over the years he traveled all over Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico studying the Native American heritage, hunting for artifacts, and painting Southwest Native American Landscapes and Still Life.

In his search for artifacts and the art of the Indian, he amassed quite an expensive collection of artifacts, rugs, jewelry, and pottery. He has been featured in many Newspaper articles from Colorado, Arizona, Nebraska, and New Mexico as a well-known advocate, exhibitor, lecturer and major contributor to local schools, communities, and the AAUW (American Association of University Women). His works have been exhibited numerous times  from the 1920's until his passing at age 77 on January 27, 1974.
Even art galleries in New York that feature Native American exhibitions have shown and sold his paintings.
